Taking an Earth Literacy Program for Credit There are several options for taking programs for credit, as described below. All participants engage in the same activities and studies; those taking a program for credit have additional documentation requirements. Participants wishing to enroll for credit should inform Genesis Farm as soon as possible, as different application requirements apply. Taking a program for credit requires and additional cost: please contact us for specific amounts. The St. Thomas University Earth Literacy Certificate The accredited graduate Certificate in Earth Literacy grew out of several years of study, dialogue, and collaboration among a small group of educators who grappled seriously with the need to redesign higher education to address the crises of an imperiled Earth. A primary inspiration for these discussions was Thomas Berry's suggestions for a new ecological role for colleges. Among the participants in this process were faculty and administrators from St. Thomas University (STU) and Miami-Dade Community College in Miami, Florida and Genesis Farm. The 15 graduate credit Genesis Farm-STU Certificate is a result of this collaboration and represents a synthesis of the experiential process of our traditional Earth Literacy programs and the intellectual challenge of an academic program. The accredited graduate certificate is awarded to a student who successfully completes the Genesis Farm twelve-week Earth Literacy program and a detailed study of the student's own bioregion. A student may continue on to earn a Masters degree by taking additional courses at STU. In addition, the Sophia Center (Holy Names College, Oakland, CA) will accept the full 15 credits from St. Thomas University (STU). Please contact us for the additional costs to take an Earth Literacy program for graduate credit. St. Mary of the Woods A
student completing the 12-week course at Genesis Farm may receive
10 credits toward an M.A. in Earth Literacy at St. Mary of the Woods
College in Indiana. Partial credit is not available through St. Mary
of the Woods. More information is available on request. |
